The fabric is the part of an outdoor piece that fails first, so it is the part worth over-specifying. Performance Canvas is 100% solution-dyed acrylic at 300 g/m², which means the same thing here as it does for rope: pigment in the polymer rather than on it. It carries 40,000 Martindale abrasion cycles — the contract-furniture threshold is 30,000 — and a five-year warranty against fading. It is also bleach-cleanable, which sounds like a small thing until a guest spills red wine on a pale seat cushion.

Care
Brush off loose dirt, sponge with mild soap and lukewarm water, rinse thoroughly and air dry. For stubborn stains a dilute bleach solution is safe — solution-dyed acrylic cannot be bleached out because the colour is in the fibre.
Common questions
What is the difference between solution-dyed and piece-dyed outdoor fabric?
Solution-dyed fabric has pigment added to the liquid polymer before the fibre is extruded, so colour runs through the entire fibre. Piece-dyed fabric is woven first and dyed afterwards, so colour sits on the surface. In practice that means solution-dyed fabric can be bleach-cleaned and holds colour for years, while piece-dyed fabric fades unevenly and cannot tolerate bleach.
